Matthias Blackmore, Sith Lord Malblast, sat in the shadows in a small bar on the old Sith world of Korriban. The bar was stuffy and full of people oblivious to the true nature of the world around them. It was the birthplace of the very darkness they despised. It was here that the old Jedi rebels, millennia ago, met the true Sith, a species so linked with the Force that it had become part of who they were. Over the centuries, the rebel Jedi and the Sith intermingled, creating a new species capable of wielding the Force to a much greater degree than was previously thought possible. And thus the Sith Order was founded.
Matthias contemplated the irony of it all. New Republic soldiers, and Jedi, wandered the ruins of the old Sith Academy where thousands of the most powerful wielders of the Dark Side had been trained. The Force grew dark and powerful here, blinding the weakling Jedi from sensing Matthias' true power.
The only distinguishing feature of Matthias, the Sith Lord Malblast, was his stark white short hair and matching eyes, a reminder of his Echani heritage. Many Republic Jedi and soldiers glanced at him, sitting in his light armor in a corner, and disregarded him, thinking he was no more than a mercenary or adventurer.
And though they were partially right, they could never have guessed his mission on the planet that was the birthplace of his power.

Firestar wandered through the strange world, sensing something off about it. It gave her a very bad feeling, though she couldn't pinpoint why. There just seemed to be a sort of darkness covering the place, not really tangible, but she could feel it there. She walked into the cantina, barely noticeably limping. The battle on Mustafar with her brother had left her scarred and parazlyed on her left side, though the injuries were not as bad as they could have been considering that she had been drenched in lava. Her entire left side, even up to about half her face, were left disfigured. She was only able to walk and use her arm through very precise practice with the Force, though that was because she had been stubborn and refused amputation and prosthetics. The cantina was noisy, its bar crowded. There were many Jedi and soldiers in there; some of the Jedi greeted her by name. She looked around for a place to sit, needing to rest for a while from her use of the Forced to make herself walk. The only place that seemed available was in a back corner where sat a lone man of a race she recognized as Echani. She walked over there and smiled slightly at him. "Mind if I share your table?" she asked him.

Matthias looked up at the Jedi who came to his table. She was very badly disfigured, most likely paralyzed, but she held her self confidently and moved casually.
"If you'd like," Matthias said, pointing to a chair across from him. He felt no fear emanating from her, and only a small tinkling of pain that was forced behind layers of focus and determination. She intrigued him. "My name is Matthias Blackmore," he told her, using his birth name and omitting his Sith name.

Firestar slid into the chair, stretching her leg out carefully before she released it and let it and her arm fall limp. She gave Matthias a bright smile, brown eyes sparkling. "Eron Kyon," she told him. "Known to the Jedi as Firestar. So what brings you here?" She clasped her hands and placed them on the table, her gloved left hand interlacing fingers with her bare right one.

Matthias reclined in his seat, stretching out, a drink in one hand. He glanced about as he spoke. "I'm a tourist," he said, smiling briefly at Firestar. So, she was associated with Star. He would have to keep that in mind. "I'm actually here at the request of the museum curator," he admitted. After all, what was a lie without some truth? "She has asked me to patrol a new wing of the museum centered around the old Sith Academy. I've been hired to make sure it's safe."

Firestar blinked in surprise at his answer. He was to patrol the Sith Academy wing of the museum? She didn't think many people would be up to a job like that. She had walked by there once, and felt something extremely unpleasant, even worse than the rest of the world. Perhaps it was just the lingering influence of the Dark Side there. "Well, congratulations on the job, then," she told him, looking him over. "I have to say though, you don't look much like the security type. I would have guessed you as more of a mercenary."

Matthias looked at this Firestar and met her gaze. "I did say I was hired, didn't I?" he said, trying to hide his mild annoyance. She may end up causing trouble if he wasn't careful. "The curator has hired me to make sure it's safe; that's my primary assignment in my contract. While I'm at it, I'm supposed to report anything suspicious to either the curator, or if she is unavailable, the nearest Republic official."
Matthias finished his drink and stood, looking down at Firestar briefly. "Thank you for the company," he said, inclining his head politely. "I should be on my way."
As he walked away, Matthias was suddenly glad that he had hidden his twin lightsabers in a small compartment in his armor and not worn them on his hip, like he normally did; it would have given him away immediately.
Outside the cantina, Matthias paused to get his bearings. He wasn't supposed to report to the museum until the next morning, but he was restless; a walk would help calm him. So, he began to pace the outer perimeter of the small sub-city surrounding the museum and old Academy.

Firestar didn't understand what had offended him so; she had just been making pleasant conversation. She sighed and glanced down at the table, wishing she hadn't come alone here. She would very much have liked to bring someone with her, but this had been a solo assignment. She was scheduled to leave for Coruscant the next afternoon, but for now, she had nothing to do. Shrugging to herself, she stood and left. She decided to check out one of the junk yards at the edge of town. She had recently bought an old speeder, and was in the process of refurbishing it. She needed to look for various engine parts and wondered if there were any worth buying out here.

Matthias walked slowly; he wasn't in any rush. The durasteel walls and walkways were slate gray and boring, offering little more than a facade of stability. Matthias reflected that he could easily slash through any wall in his path if he needed to.
The dark side of the Force was strong on the planet, and Matthias let himself be filled with it, flowing through him like never before. He had felt such connections in other planets, but never as strong or pure.
Stopping on a walkway suspended high above the actual ground of the planet, Matthias looked out over the rugged and dead terrain, finally finding some peace and feeling at home. He just stood there, armored hands on the railing, looking out into the sunset as the mighty star lowered behind the hills and halls of the Sith Academy.

"I've been looking all over for you!" came a female's voice from behind Matthias. He'd felt her approaching, her aura of uncertainty obscured by arrogance and overbearing self-asserting dominance. "What took you so long? I hired you over a week ago and you just now decide to show up?"
Matthias looked over his shoulder casually to regard his employer. She was short, plump, and obviously in a foul mood. Though she was human, Matthias often associated her more with the Huts than the humans. With a sigh, he pushed himself off the railing and turned to face her squarely. "I'm sorry," he said, struggling to keep himself under control. Now is not the time or place, he thought before continuing, "I was distracted by a few protocols on my way; nothing to worry about, I assure you. There were also a few necessaries I had to collect."
His employer seemed to visibly shrink as Matthias stepped forward, his body completely blocking the view to the planet and sunset behind him. "You're sweating, Gladys," he said, narrowing his eyes. "You're scared, too. I can see your fear in your eyes." And it's pouring off you like water over a cliff!
"It's nothing! I promise!" she replied, a little too quickly. "I just want the job finished. I can't open the Sith Academy section of the museum until you make sure it's clear! My profits are taking quite a hit from the wait, you see."
"Don't worry about your profits," Matthias said cooly, reaching forward to brush a strand of sweaty hair back from her face. She trembled slightly. Matthias took a deep breath, reveling in the scent and feel of her fear. He met her eyes, the power of the dark side nearly glowing in his own. "Worry more about breaking our promise, Gladys. Whatever I find down there that I wish to keep belongs to me, understand? No questions. If you so much as utter a single syllable in query, I'll kill you slowly."
Gladys nodded quickly, all pretense of being in control gone. She saw her life in Matthias' extremely capable hands and quailed. "Of course. Whatever you want, it's yours. I've never questioned it."
Matthias smiled down at her, turning back to the rail. "Good," he said, still facing away from her. "Now run along. I shall start in a short while." As Gladys began to hurry away, Matthias gripped her in the Force and held her still. "And Gladys," he said. "Make sure the place is empty. I will have no interference from your 'guards.' If they get in the way, I will destroy them."
Matthias released his grip on her and smiled as he felt her fear grow tenfold and her feet smacking the durasteel walkway as she ran away.
He would find it, he would use it.

Kali clawed at the controls as she entered the planet's atmosphere. She needed to repair her thrusters, but she also needed the money from this job to pay for it. She swore under her breath as it landed roughly on the ground. A loud creaking noise made her hair raise on end. Her ghost-like reflection in the windows was not reassuring. She looked like a puffball with eyeballs. She hissed at the image, as she unstrapped herself. Her employer would contact her on her portable communicator as soon as he was able. For now, all she had to do was survive.
She sent a quick pulse signal to let him know she was here. Then, her ship as well-hidden as it was going to get, she stepped outside. Someone could take her ship, she could always steal another, but no one could take /her/.
Her golden brown eyes scanned the horizon. She saw a large building in the distance. According to the research she'd done (she always made it a habit to know at least a little about where she was going; she did not want to risk slavery again), this was the location of the Sith Academy.
"I wonder if they're still here," she thought. "If that's the case, I'd better be extra careful. I may not be gifted with the Force myself, but that does not mean they can't sense me, or I am unable to cause a disturbance in it."
She sighed. She really couldn't think of a better plan than the one she had. She nodded to herself, and rubbed her stiff neck, cursing how well endowed she was. One day, she'd see a doctor about modifying herself. One day.
"Here goes nothing," she thought, as she fingered the weapons and tools on her belt, and began running toward the building ahead of her.

Firestar spent a while digging around in a junkyard, finding some useful scraps for her speeder back on Coruscant. There wasn't much, but she never expected to find anything very quickly. Afterwards, she wandered through the streets for a while, feeling restless. Something was wrong; she could sense it. She wasn't often attuned to the Force well enough to notice specific things, but this whole place had been constantly making her feel unsure of everything. She found herself walking past the museum--the former Sith Academy, she had heard--when a woman came charging out as if fleeing for her life. She hardly seemed to notice where she was going and ran straight into Firestar. "What's wrong, ma'am?" Firestar asked the woman, feeling her trembling all over. "N-nothing," she replied in a shaky, though determined, voice. Firestar could feel the terror radiating off of her and put her hand on the woman's shoulder to help her calm down, while glancing at the building she had fled from. She took a few steps toward it when the woman grabbed her arm. "You...you can't go in there," she said. Firestar sighed; whatever had frightened her, it was still in there, and what's more, Firestar could feel something darker than normal coming from within it. Perhaps it was just the lingering of the Sith relics. If so, Firestar knew it was her duty to see the evil things destroyed. "It will be all right, I can go in there," Firestar told her, slightly waving her hand before the woman's eyes. She stared for a moment longer, then let go of her arm. Firestar turned and ran into the building.

Matthias stopped in his steps as he heard a door close somewhere far above him, in the main level of the Academy. He frowned. The guards were supposed to be gone, and the curator had been too frightened to even look in a mirror. He closed his eyes and opened his senses wider, embracing the darkness around him to carry him upwards.
His eyes flew open in irritation and slight anger. He felt her, that Jedi from the cantina. Growling in frustration, he continued on his way, his steps echoing down the corridor. The object was close, he could feel it. The Dark side radiated from it like heat from a sun, only cold and dark, with no warmth to even keep a candle alight. He smiled, nearly feeling it within his grasp.

Kali sniffed the air. She could smell something foul in the air. Gracefully, she crouched down on all fours and sniffed the ground. Whatever it was, it left her insides tingling with foreboding. She stood back up.
"Hmmm," she said to herself. "Maybe I should find someone and ask what's going on. I'll improvise the rest."
She ran toward the building, only to see a young girl run inside. She walked with a slight limp, and hid it well, the casual eye would not have noticed, but if there was one thing Kali was not, it was a casual eye. It made Kali's insides burn. She may not be the most moral person, but there was something that made her cringe when she saw young people, especially young girls, hurt. She blamed it on the remnants of her life as a slave.
Running towards her, Kali yelled after her, hoping she'd hear, or wasn't too frightened to answer. As she got closer she realized this girl's body language didn't read frightened. It read something else, something that Kali wasn't familiar with.
"Hello?" Kali called after her. "Are you hurt, Miss?" That was when the strange smell hit her nose.
"It's coming from that building that girl is running to!" she thought, and swore under her breath. "My good side always gets me into trouble." Not knowing what else to do, she patiently watched the girl.

As soon as she entered the building, the Force hit Firestar like a tidal wave, leaving her feeling cold, empty, and terrified. For a moment, it left her there, motionless, and she lost her grip of the Force, making her paralyzed leg buckle and go limp, and the few remaining nerves zinged with pain and caused her leg to spasm on its own accord before it resumed its motionless state. As soon as she recovered her breath, she stood, slowly, every movement slow until she was back on her feet. She glanced behind herself, thinking she had heard someone calling out to her, but then the Force roiled over her again and she had to focus all her attention on not falling to it. She continued to run forward, in the direction she felt all this darkness coming from. This was bad...this was very, very bad.
