Matthias nodded at Jeraldi's words. "A fair assessment," he said, relaxing a little more, though he was still ready should anything happen. "Fear is simply an emotion, albeit a useful one to exploit, while courage is the ability to look past the emotion to the reason behind it. Those with courage are just as afraid as those who succumb to fear. That being said, however, there can be a limit to one's courage, just as with fear, once a certain limit is breached, the victim simply collapses."
Matthias stood and looked at Jeraldi, searching deep in his eyes. "But sometimes it is important to let the fear win, to give in, if only for a change to overcome it in the future. Another question: which is least important, obedience or loyalty?"

Jeraldi kind of enjoyed these question games. "That one is easy. Loyalty wins over obedience. With obedience one is only doing what he or she is told. With loyalty comes love and trust. With loyalty comes courage, and a readiness to lay down ones life for his or her loved ones. The strongest loyalties have no boundaries, whereas obedience can go only as far as the person being controlled allows it. Therefore, obedience is the least of the two."

Matthias sighed. So full of values and upright character. Matthias had his work cut out for him. "Perhaps," he said. "You can't have one without the other. Loyalty demands obedience, just as obedience demands loyalty. I demand complete and utter obedience from those who follow me. Whether they do it out of loyalty or not is not my problem."
Matthias began to pace about, trying to judge Jeraldi's character. He was definitely strong in the dark side, yet he harbored strange ideals which closely resembled those of the Jedi. His face turned up in a snarl at the thought of those weak, pathetic, and arrogant Jedi.
"Which do you fear more, Jeraldi: death or life?"

Jeraldi looked down as he heard this last question. "I fear both, and neither one. My family died a long long time ago, and that moment has made me numb to both death and life. Do I want to die? Only when the time is right. I care not for the formalities of life, however, and care not when that time comes that I may pass this world. Death shouldn't be taken lightly and toyed with in my opinion, but there are those in this universe that deserve it and if it is I that crush their poor pathetic souls, then so be it. So, to answer your question in short, screw them both."

Matthias grinned. "Wonderful," he said. "Jeraldi, I have a proposition for you, then." He paused and paced again, loving the tense silence. "A man alone, no matter how powerful he is, like me, cannot always stand alone and triumph. He can survive, but the victories are not always guaranteed. I propose you join me. As the old saying goes, 'together, we can rule the galaxy'. What do you say?"

Jeraldi stopped looking down as Matthias gave him this proposition. What was he to do? Turn him down and allow the universe to fall at his feet? Or attempt to save it and probably die in the process? "What is it you propose to do on the conquest? What is your attack plan and who are you attacking?"

Matthias was suddenly questioning his decision to take Jeraldi on as an apprentice. "Why, the Jedi, of course," Matthias said, waving his hand. It was common knowledge the kind of stain the Jedi were leaving on the galaxy. "And any who stand in the way."

Jeraldi knew this wouldn't be easy. He didn't care for the jedi much either, but ever since he left the dark side he couldn't stand to see any person, or creature get hurt. He knew something would have to be sacrificed, however, if he were to save the entire universe from the destruction Matthias planned to release on it. "I apologize for not understanding. I may not have the same hatred for the jedi as you do, but I don't care for them either. I'll tell you where the real problem lies in your conquest to rule the universe, the Jawas. Sly, slick creatures they are. Always one step ahead, and fantastic warriors. You definitely don't want them to be able to mobilize quickly. If I were you I'd start with them. The jedi are mindless, random people. They don't know their rear end from the gray side of a wall. You'll have no worry with them in your current state. I'd demobilize the Jawas in their central locations, so that they are scattered and unable to form a union.

Matthias considered Jeraldi's words. He was right, of course. The Jawas were involved in enterprises throughout the galaxy; taking them out slowly, one stronghold at a time, would inevitably destroy the weak Jedis foundation. He was nodding.
"You are quite right," he said finally, nodding one last time. "I shall start here. Every single Jawa on this planet will be eradicated and obliterated, with nothing but their tell-tale robes as evidence of their previous existence."

Jeraldi had to hide his emotions. The Jawas extinction would be on his hands, but to save the rest of the galaxy it had to be done. He only hoped that he could somehow save a few to keep the race alive.

Matthias was silent as he considered how best to eradicate the Jawa menace. He wouldn't have to kill all of them, just enough to severely cripple the Jedis' support structure. A few planets, at least, perhaps ten or twelve. If he felt more needed to be destroyed, he could easily continue his righteous quest.

Jeraldi mentally sighed in relief as he saw Matthias contemplating how to destroy the Jawas. On the other hand, how was he going to get Matthias to forget about the Jedi? Then it hit him, he didn't have to get Matthias to forget, he just had to get the Jedi prepared while Matthias was occupied with the Jawas, and he could get the Frog Dogs to spread the word! He started to form a plan as he waited for Matthias to speak.

The huge surge from the Dark Side had startled Lilith slightly. She had been traveling and exploring the the strange world of the Ancient Sith. She had encountered many strange and interesting creatures, and had even been able to communicate with a rather large Tuk'ata, commonly known as a Sith hound. What she had learned from it was quite interesting.
Many ancient and dark Sith artifacts were hidden beneath the the Sith Academy of old, but that was relatively common knowledge. What had interested her was the presence of some rather strong Force users that the Sith hound and his pack had felt near the Sith Academy.
It was while she was journeying to the Academy that she felt the sudden surge from the Force. Someone quite powerful in the dark side must have come into contact with one of the artifacts. She picked up her pace, yellow eyes glowing as she took in the power of this planet. No Jedi scum would be able to feel or notice her presence due to the overpowering presence of the Dark Side. The power was changing, coming in bursts now, as if the wielder of the artifact could not contain himself.
I must find this person quickly, she thought to herself. It may be the key she needed to unlock more secrets of the Dark Side.

Matthias stopped his pacing and looked up sharply, casting out with his senses. There was someone, or something, strong in the Dark Side approaching.
"Quickly," Matthias said, motioning to Jeraldi. "There are several creatures approaching from the southeast." For some reason, the phrasing tickled his funny bone and sent him cackling as he walked.

Jeraldi turned his head as he felt another, strong in the dark side, approaching them. "This may put a damper on my plan." He thought to himself. "If this person is out to seek the same destruction as Matthias, I'll have to rethink my process a bit." Jeraldi walked quickly with Matthias as he tried to figure out a way to use this to his advantage. Matthias did seem to be a very paranoid kind being, weary of anything that seemed to get in his way. Jeraldi thought that if he could pit Matthias against this newcomer, he could stall him for a little while while Jeraldi tried to figure out something to do. "This person feels strong in the dark side, and they obviously are interested in what you have. I was myself, but "finders keepers, losers weepers" has always been my motto. This newcomer, I'm not so sure about. He or she his moving rather rapidly and frantically it seems and I'm not sure we will see eye to eye."
